Genealogy, historical context and family storytelling come together in a Deering Estate lecture examining how researchers distinguish documented fact from inherited lore. Held Sunday, November 1, the program connects the Estate’s America 250 exhibition, Family History is America’s Story, with examples drawn from the Deering family’s genealogy. Lorrie Chupina Martin, president of the Genealogical Society of Greater Miami, leads the discussion, offering approaches for researching family histories, evaluating long-held stories and placing individual experiences within broader historical narratives. A professional genealogist specializing in forensic research, Martin also serves as chair of the National Genealogical Society Delegate Council. The free lecture takes place in the Deering Estate Visitor Center Theater in Palmetto Bay. Advance RSVP is required.
