The Miami River’s history, from Tequesta communities to later waterfront settlements, provides the focus for a narrated evening cruise. Presented by Museum of Miami on Saturday, December 19, the tour departs from the Island Queen docks at Bayside Marketplace with resident historian Dr. Paul S. George. A Miami native, author and professor emeritus of history at Miami Dade College, George traces the people and places that shaped Downtown Miami, sharing stories of nearby archaeological sites and neighborhoods along the river. The two-hour cruise offers a waterside perspective on the city’s development. Water and soda are included, with additional drinks and light snacks available for purchase. The vessel has an enclosed, air-conditioned lower deck with seating and amplified narration, along with a covered, open-sided upper deck accessible only by stairs. Participants should arrive between 6:15 and 6:45 p.m. for check-in at the Island Queen docks, reached through Bayside Marketplace’s main entrance toward the marina. The boat cannot return for late arrivals. Parking is available in Bayside’s garage, and the College/Bayside Metromover station provides a nearby transit option.
