WALLCAST® Concert: Denève Mahler 1

Quick-witted piano writing, spontaneous improvisation and Mahler’s sweeping “Titan” Symphony shape a program featuring Gabriela Montero and the New World Symphony Fellows. The free outdoor concert takes place Saturday, February 20 at SoundScape Park in Miami Beach. Artistic Director Stéphane Denève leads the orchestra, with NWS Conducting Fellow Ziwei Ma also appearing on the podium. Montero performs Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 1 and brings her improvisational approach to the program. The concert opens with Grażyna Bacewicz’s Overture, conducted by Ma, and concludes with Mahler’s Symphony No. 1, “Titan,” a large-scale work that moves through pastoral passages, shifting moods and a forceful finale. The performance will be broadcast live from the New World Center onto its 7,000-square-foot exterior projection wall with accompanying outdoor sound. Guests can bring a blanket or lawn chair and pack a picnic to enjoy during the concert. Admission is free and no ticket is required.
