The Master and Margarita

Mikhail Bulgakov’s satirical and mystical novel comes to the stage in a touring production that interweaves romance, political satire and the biblical story of Pontius Pilate. Presented Wednesday, October 21 at the Julius Littman Theater in North Miami Beach, the adaptation is directed by Valery Belyakovich and stars Ivars Kalniņš as the Procurator. The production follows the intertwined stories of the Master and Margarita, Woland’s disruptive arrival in Moscow and Bulgakov’s retelling of Pilate’s encounter with Yeshua. Music, lighting, costumes and ensemble staging bring the novel’s shifts between realism, fantasy and allegory to the stage. The cast also includes Diana Rozovlyan, Igor Khalizov, Veronika Moroz, Boris Bogdanov and Konstantin Tsykin, among others.
