Soundscape Cinema Series: King Richard

Will Smith portrays Richard Williams, the father and early coach of tennis champions Venus and Serena Williams, in an outdoor screening at SoundScape Park in Miami Beach. The Wednesday, February 3 presentation is part of the 17th season of the free SoundScape Cinema Series, which projects films onto the 7,000-square-foot wall of the New World Center. Directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, the 2021 biographical drama follows Richard as he trains his daughters on public courts in Compton while pursuing an ambitious plan to guide them toward professional tennis. The film traces the family’s persistence through financial pressures, skepticism and the demands of elite competition as Venus and Serena begin their rise in the sport. The PG-13 film is presented outdoors, rain or shine. Attendees may bring blankets and picnic baskets for the screening.
