Screened walls, interior atriums and flowing water connect the historic Matheson House to its surrounding tropical hammock. Offered Saturdays and Sundays through December 26, the Matheson Homes Historic Tour explores architecture, preservation and family history at Patch of Heaven Sanctuary in Redland. The guided route includes the main house, Forest Cabin and Gatekeeper’s Home. Designed by Hugh Matheson Jr., the main residence features a domed roof and a library with Dade County pine bookshelves milled on site. Visitors also view a private collection of art and decorative objects gathered from around the world. The $60 tour fee includes a day pass to the sanctuary’s 20-acre grounds, which guests may explore after the tour until closing. Advance booking is required. Participants should check in at the Welcome Center, then meet at the front door of Matheson House.
