Aquatic carnivorous plants and other swamp flora introduce young participants to the ecology of Big Cypress during a hands-on workshop at Miami Beach Botanical Garden. Held Saturday, November 7, the program invites children to examine living plants in individual aquariums before working together to construct a miniature wetland. Designed for ages 4 to 8, the workshop is led by environmental scientist and educator Sasha Sikaffy, whose work uses direct encounters with living organisms and scientific tools to explore South Florida ecology. All materials are provided, and each child must be accompanied by one adult.
