Hadassah Magazine Presents: Noa Yedlin & Zeruya Shalev – Fiction

Zeruya Shalev’s Fate: A Novel explores Zionist extremism in 1940s Palestine and the divides in modern-day Israel, told through the intersecting paths of two women from different generations. When Atara’s elderly father dies, he leaves behind unanswered questions about his violent past. He mistook Atara for his first wife before he was gone, compelling her to uncover their long-buried history – and starting a cascade of events that will upend her own life. In her satirical novel House Arrest, translated to English by Evan Fallenberg and Shira Atik, Israeli author Noa Yedlin chronicles a scandal that envelops a prominent Jerusalem family when its matriarch is accused of embezzling millions from the think tank she directs. Her three adult children try to close ranks, but hypocrisy runs deep in their elite Israeli society and too many stand to lose financial and social capital – and their disgrace spirals out of control. Moderating is Lisa Hostein, executive editor of Hadassah Magazine. Buy Fate: A Novel Buy House Arrest
