Contemporary works by multiple generations of artists come into focus during a guided tour of the Lowe Art Museum’s Young, Gifted and Black exhibition. Held Saturday, November 21, the program offers a closer look at selections from the Lumpkin-Boccuzzi Family Collection, which brings together 52 works by 49 artists working across a wide range of media. The exhibition includes established figures such as David Hammons, Glenn Ligon, Lorna Simpson, Henry Taylor, Kara Walker and Nari Ward alongside artists including Jordan Casteel, Jonathan Lyndon Chase, LaToya Ruby Frazier, Paul Mpagi Sepuya and Vaughn Spann. Led by a Lowe museum educator, curator or docent, the tour uses close looking and discussion to explore themes and artistic approaches represented throughout the exhibition.
