Ehnes Quartet with Jonathan Vinocour (viola)

Two masterpieces that reveal the warmth, richness, and expressive depth of Brahms’s chamber music. Brahms’s two string quintets are among the greatest achievements of nineteenth-century chamber music. By adding a second viola to the traditional string quartet, he created a darker, richer sonority that allows every instrument to contribute equally to the musical conversation. Balancing lyrical beauty with remarkable structural craftsmanship, these late works reflect Brahms at the height of his creative powers. The Ehnes Quartet joins San Francisco Symphony Principal Viola Jonathan Vinocour to bring these extraordinary works to life.
