Combat Sambo League IV: Fight Night

Fighters combine punches and kicks with throws, takedowns and submission holds at Combat Sambo League IV: Fight Night. Taking place Saturday, November 14 at Miccosukee Casino & Resort, the event brings the striking and grappling discipline to a live competition setting. Sambo developed in the Soviet Union in the early 20th century, drawing on judo, wrestling and regional grappling traditions. Its name abbreviates a Russian phrase meaning “self-defense without weapons.” Combat sambo integrates that throwing and submission foundation with striking, requiring athletes to transition between standing exchanges, close-range clinches and ground fighting. Under the league’s rules, competitors wear belted sambo jackets and can win through knockout, submission, judges’ decision or a qualifying throw that lands an opponent on their back while the thrower remains standing. The league is operated by AK Legacy Inc., a Jacksonville-based nonprofit that organizes competitions and training programs. The event begins at 5 p.m. Tickets are available through the organizer. Miccosukee Casino & Resort is located at 500 SW 177th Avenue.
