A walking route from The Barnacle to El Jardin traces Coconut Grove’s early settlement and architectural history. Presented by Museum of Miami on Sunday, November 8, the tour is led by resident historian Dr. Paul S. George, a Miami native, author and former college professor whose neighborhood tours connect local landmarks with the people who shaped them. The route begins at The Barnacle, the 1891 home of boat designer and Coconut Grove pioneer Ralph Middleton Munroe, set within a preserved hardwood hammock along Biscayne Bay. Participants will learn about the Coconut Grove Playhouse’s transition from movie palace to live theater and view architectural landmarks including El Jardin and Plymouth Congregational Church. Check-in takes place between 9:30 and 9:55 a.m. on the sidewalk outside The Barnacle Historic State Park entrance. Comfortable walking shoes, water and sun protection are recommended. Museum members receive a discount when signed into their accounts during registration.
